Komi-san wa Komyushou Desu Wiki

Summer Vacation is Over is the fiftieth chapter of Tomohito Oda's Komi Can't Communicate.

Summary[]

On August 31st, the last day of summer, Komi gets a pressing call from Najimi, saying that Tadano is in trouble and that she needs to come to his house urgently, and to bring her homework.

When she arrives, nervously, Najimi invites her in, despite Tadano being the host. Komi, timid yet curious, enters, shortly after Yamai, uninvited, wrenches the door open and lets herself in, due to Komi's presence. She is derisive when she learns that Tadano and his sister share a bedroom, surmising that his family must be poor, when, speak of the devil, Hitomi appears, introducing herself and gleaming at Tadano having friends over for once. She is surprised that Najimi appears to be a girl, as they seemed to be a boy a year ago, and wonders if the pretty Yamai could possibly be Tadano's girlfriend (although that couldn't be further from the truth). However, when she sees Komi, she takes her brother out of the room, and questions how he managed to get a goddess like her to come over to his house, or even how he's friends with her.

Najimi reveals that they lied to Komi, and that there's no emergency, they just hasn't finished their homework, and wants to copy other people's answers. When Najimi receives judgement, they ask if anyone else hasn't finished, as Tadano considers pulling an all-nighter to finish his, which Hitomi and Yamai are unsurprised by. Najimi calculates that out of the 19 and a half hours before school, minus the time for studying, eating and sleeping, they have 3 hours of free time, which they suggest playing videogames during, against Tadano's better judgement. He tells Komi not to let Najimi copy her answers, to Najimi's despair. While the two of them will study, Komi decides to review her homework, while Yamai drools at Komi lecherously. Tadano has difficulty with a question, as Yamai unexpectedly gives him answers, although doing so patronizingly, however Tadano and Komi realise that all of her answers are wrong.

During study, the group reminisce about events that happened over the summer, such as the pool trip, where Komi grazed her knee and Yamai filed away the bump in the concrete, Tadano seeing Komi at the library, the part-time tissue job, the Obon festival and playing videogames with Nakanaka, which Yamai seethes at her not being invited, and gets embarrassed when Najimi revealed that she intended to ask Komi out, but couldn't. While they talk, Komi becomes teary eyed, and when the group fretfully asks what the problem is, she explains (via notepad) that this is the first time in her life where she didn't want summer to end. Najimi, even more emotional, exclaims the same, as they haven't finished their homework.

Over the night, Tadano and Najimi continue working as Komi and Yamai go home. Tadano manages to complete his homework, but Najimi is not so committed.
