Yuiko Komi ( () () (ゆい) () Komi Yuiko?), née Yuiko Shirotsume is Komi Shouko, Komi Akira, and Komi Shousuke's grandmother.

Appearance[]

Yuiko is an older woman with light grey hair worn in a bun with long bangs framing her face and black eyes.

She wears square-rimmed glasses on a gold chain hold and a plum kimono.

Back in her younger days, she had a long black hair that was parted in the middle with two waves of long bangs framing her face and revealing a large forehead, just like her granddaughter Shouko, she had slanted eyes with clear irises and thin eyebrows that gave the look of an angry frown.

In her student uniform, she wore a long black jumper dress, a white shirt underneath, short white socks and black shoes, and similar to the present, she always wore the same kind of square-rimmed glasses, but without the gold chain hold.

Personality[]

Yuiko is strict, but gentle and loving towards her family, regularly giving them advice and wanting their happiness.

According Komi Ryouko, Yuiko has a very reserved demeanor and doesn't really want people to touch her stuff, which can tell on how she doesn't like to relate to people, hinted on how it took two years to Ryouko to warm up to Yuiko after they met. But when she likes a person, she can openly let them to touch her stuff or talk to them overall.

She has the habit to stare in a stoic and at times scary way towards people who she doesn't know, as it was in Chapter 218 where she stared at her young son Komi Masayoshi and his girlfriend at that time Shuuko without saying a single word.

This habit was repeated in Chapter 475 where after meeting Tadano Hitohito for the first time, she shew a disapproval behavior towards him, staring at every moment she could and creating tension almost everywhere. However, after Tadano's endeavors on trying to be helpful for her and show interest in her past days as a teacher, she started to grow a fond for him and approve his relationship with her granddaughter.

Back in her younger days, it can be shown that she always had her actual disciplined and strict personality, but with the adding to have an irritated and unfriendly demeanor, giving her the nickname of 'iron lady' by her fellow classmates, deep inside, she only had this tough personality, because she didn't want anyone getting hurt, showing signs of wanting everyone's wellbeing. However, after her failed attempts to convince her classmate Komi Shoujiro from attending school and not understanding his bubbly personality or commentaries at her, she shew some signs of a tsundere personality as it was appreciated in Chapter 484.

Synopsis[]

In the past, she used to be a very strict and unfriendly student, dispersing assemblies and demonstrations of students who seeked for justice and protections to their rights, actions that were forbidden back in these days. Due these behavior, she gained the title of "Iron Lady" by her fellow classmates, but not by Shoujiro who viewed her as a kind soul.

At some point, she became a Japanese Language Arts teacher and taught some time before marrying Shoujiro, lately after getting married, she quit her job and became a farmer along with her husband. Living together until the end of his days.

In her married life, she had two sons, Komi Sadayoshi and Komi Masayoshi and lately they gave her grandchildren Komi Shouko, Komi Shousuke and Komi Akira.

In the present, upon the arrival of her son's family, she softly asks the group to come inside, which Shuuko points out as acting like her typical self.

Later that day, at the request of her mother, Shouko visits her grandmother before dinner. It is also a Komi family customary to keep your grandmother abreast of the current events and seek her wisdom. Just before Shouko enters her grandmother's room, her father exits the room looking dour, suspecting he received a stern talking to by his mother. Sitting by her grandmother, Shouko answers all of her grandmother's questions about high school and if anything is bothering her. When Yuiko asks her granddaughter if she has made any friends, Shouko answers yes which makes Yuiko happy. Yuiko then allows Shouko to rest her head on her lap, but then asks if she's seeing anyone. This causes Shouko to panic and Yuiko asks to see her phone and sees Tadano Hitohito's name on it and denotes her disapproval of him.

As Tadano Hitohito came to her house to study with her granddaughter for a month, she had a first met with him for the very first time. Still retaining her previous disapproval at him, she kept a very stoic and unfriendly behavior at Hitohito, creating a major tension in the ambiance; however after Tadano shew interest in her past times as a teacher as he has plans in becoming a teacher, she started to grow a fond on him, opening to share time of quality and becoming more fraternal towards him.
