Nene Onemine ( () () (みね) ねね Onemine Nene?) is a secondary character in Komi Can't Communicate. She's a former classmate of Komi Shouko, Tadano Hitohito, and Osana Najimi, noticeably known as a very caring person, who acts as an older sister figure to her friends.

Appearance[]

Onemine has two moles on her face one under her left eye and the other on the right side of her lower lip. She sports medium-length brown hair which she ties up usually and long bangs framing her face with a parting at the center. She is often shown wearing the standard female school uniform, excluding the navy blue blazer, and wears short, nearly invisible socks only shown when she’s baking with Komi and Otori and she also wears her skirt a few centimetres above her knees, with her shirt invariably untucked.

Personality[]

Onemine is shown to be pretty observant and caring as she became worried about Tadano who is prone to be an errand boy and various works being pushed on him. Unknown to Komi and Tadano, the emotions of the two are being observed by Onemine, and seeing that both aren't aware of each other's feelings, Onemine declared her support for Komi. Onemine is often seen together with Komi like when their class was preparing for their cultural festival along with Otori.

History[]

Onemine begins high school in Komi's class with all the other students, but doesn't interact with Komi's group much[2]. They formally meet when she helps Tadano with his assigned student council paperwork, making Komi jealous, given the frequent interactions they have together. Onemine, not knowing, wonders how Tadano can handle being Komi's friend, as she seems to be so intimidating and overbearing, but Tadano denies this. Onemine quickly deduces the romantic feelings between the pair when Komi offers to help with the paperwork. She makes up an excuse, leaving the two alone together, and wishes Komi the best of luck in their relationship[3].

As the culture festival is being prepared, Otori Kaede requests for Komi to join her at the shops, which Komi is initially hesitant about, but Onemine quickly comes to the rescue and offers to join them. Onemine makes (one-sided) small talk with Komi, as Otori trails behind. When they arrive at the shops, Onemine suggests splitting up, but quickly thinks better of it. After Otori has a personal conversation with Komi, she states that they are all friends now after the bonding. Komi briefly agrees with Otori about trying hard for the culture festival, which Onemine is surprised by[4].

On the night before the culture festival, the girls makes rice balls, but who had made what was unknown. Onemine briefly teases Komi for secretly making the rice ball that Tadano ate[5]. On the day of the festival, she and Otori join Komi and Tadano for a walk around the attractions. She notices Komi's and Tadano's eye's meeting, and their subsequent blushing[6]. She slow dances with Otori to a band[7], and signs her name in Komi's book of friends, officially becoming Komi's 13th friend[8]. After the culture festival, the class goes to out to celebrate with karaoke, but Onemine didn't sing[9].

Onemine appears in Sonoda's dating fantasy, where they go for a picnic in the park[10].

After Komi suggests going to a cat café, and after Najimi and Tadano both can't go, Komi invites Onemine, who also invites Otori. Onemine and Otori have no difficulty approaching the cats, but Komi is struggling, as Onemine encourages her. Chocolate, a distinguished black cat, eventually approaches Komi, as Onemine takes a picture of the wholesome scene. Tadano receives the image from Onemine, and instantly regrets his decision to not go[11].

After Najimi forces Komi to host a birthday/Christmas party, Onemine is brought to the mall with the group to buy Komi a present, who picks out a jar of pickled plums, but the group settles for a giant stuffed cat plushie[12]. At the party, everyone apart from Onemine, Otori, Tadano and Najimi are engaged in a silent battle to sit next to Komi, however she sits next to Tadano on the floor, to the anger of most involved[13]. Later, during the King Game, Tadano makes a boring request for No. 7 to massage his shoulders, who is revealed to be Onemine[14].

On January 2nd, after New Years Eve, Tadano and Najimi invite the group to a shrine, Onemine included. Her brother, Kazuya, answers the phone, and is promptly disciplined. She joins the group at the shrine the next day[15].

Along the street, Onemine and Otori meet Komi, who is trying to avoid being seen as her hair is messy[16].

On the school trip to Kyoto, Onemine is put into a group with Otori and Inaka, who quickly figures out that they're from the countryside[17]. She later encourages Agari and Komi to come to the bath with a towels, and admits that she's jealous of Agari because she's "flat as a board", who was embarrassed of her body. She joins Komi and the rest of the girls in the bath[18]. After the trip, Onemine and Otori receive a handmade photo frame of the field trip from Inaka, who is overjoyed at the pairs enthusiasm for her work[19].

Onemine invites Komi and Otori over to her house to make chocolate for Valentines Day, Otori being a family friend. Komi meets Onemine's 3 younger siblings, Kazuya, Nono, and Nana. They poke Otori in the butt, and try to poke Komi and Onemine, but Onemine tanks the attack, injuring Kazuya's fingers. Onemine perfectly separates the egg yolks and white, which impresses Komi and Otori. She takes charge of the cake-making process, and makes Komi play with the kids, but orders them not to bother her too much, as she's shy. The group eats all the cake, and Komi makes more at home[20].

Trivia[]

  • Onemine has on multiple occasions been seen holding hands with Otori. In Chapter 292, it was revealed that Onemine holds her hand to prevent instances of her sudden vanishing.
  • Onemine has four siblings: Takeru, the twins Kazuya and Nono, and Nana[21].
